Top 10 most visited museums worldwide

Personal Project - 2021

In my own work I am usually focused on producing simple, to-the-point visualizations with a specific goal to get across efficiently. Recently, however, I have been experimenting with different modes of visualizing data. I am particularly interested in exploring ways of combining data visualization with the visual arts such that the visualizations themselves become artworks that can be studied for longer periods of time. In this regard, I have been much inspired by the history of data visualization practices, such as the work of William Playfair and Joseph Priestly in the 18th century. As these visualizations are examined in more detail, additional information is revealed.

In this visualization, I wanted to explore a topic that was very familiar to me from my work on Art Markets, but approach it in an unfamiliar way. The style of the visualization is inspired by the work of Federica Fragapane and visualizes the top 10 most visited art museums world wide. Leaving Tableau completly behind, this visualization was created using RAWGraphs and Adobe Illustrator.
